Want to slow down aging? Have glossier hair and smoother skin? Sulfur is
one of those minerals with seemingly outrageous claims, but what if they're true? Sulfur
is a natural anti-inflammatory and contributes to the elasticity of tissues and cells. It
is present in every cell in the body and makes up about 0.25 percent of a person's body
and about 0.15 percent of a horse's body. It has an important relationship with protein,
and appears to be necessary for collagen synthesis. It is present in keratin, the
substance that makes up skin, nails and hair. It is also found in insulin and in
carbohydrates (some of which acts as an anticoagulant found in the liver). Some horse
breeders have also found it helps older broodmares maintain their pregnancies.
Dynamite MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) is a
bio-available sulfur compound, containing 450 grams per pound. We have it available in
one-pound jars and, now, in bottles of 240 capsules.
Caution: There have been rare cases of sulfur toxicity in horses, however these
animals were accidentally fed between 200 to 400 grams of nearly pure sulfur in one meal.
There is also some evidence to suggest that over-supplementation of sulfur could lead to
selenium deficiencies. As always, it is most important to provide balanced nutrition,
therefore we advise starting with the balanced vitamin and mineral supplements Dynamite or Dynamite Plus and adding other supplements
as needed in individual cases. The information given here is to help
you learn more about your horse and not to replace your veterinarian's advice. |
